Open burn, cancer wards in Aundh Hospital: Dy CM

PUNE: Immediate steps should be taken to introduce burn and cancer wards in the Pune District Hospital (Chest Hospital) Aundh to help offload the pressure from Sassoon
General Hospital, Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar said on Thursday.
"These separate sections should be opened in the Chest Hospital Aundh, along with the regional office (RO) of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). Since Pune is a central place, people from various surrounding regions come here for treatment.
The population in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad is also rising. Sassoon Hospital is therefore getting overburdened. These facilities would help offload the burden on Sassoon," Pawar said in his order.
He passed this order at a meeting held at the Deputy CM's office in the Mantralaya.
State Health Education Minister Vijay Kumar Gavit, Maharashtra Minister of State for Health Fauzia Khan, Additional Chief Secretary TC Benjamin and Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Dr Arun Jhamkar were present at the meeting.
"Presence of MUHS RO at the Chest hospital would help enhance the quality of health education and research. Facilities like Out and Inpatient department, Operation theatre etc needs to be provided," Pawar said.
